Leaders - Church Look after Your Leaders. #1
Updated: Aug 6
Life’s too short to moan we tell ourselves. Moaning can be the main topic of conversation about any leaders. I asked this one feller how he would describe Britain in a few words, “Moaning, and whinging poms!” is how this Ozzy bloke described us. I said to him where did you get that idea from? He came back quick as a flash, “Churches mate!” He wasn’t trying to be rude but just say what he’d observed. With him being an Ozzy I appreciated his candour!
I stopped and thought. He may be onto something. I’ve been in several churches in leadership roles over the past 30 years, and thinking back there is some needless, soul destroying flack certain individuals think they have the right to bombard church leaders with. And many of those individuals don’t have the courage or skills to take on the management and juggling that a church leader does. How can we all encourage our church leaders? Many of whom are volunteers! In the main, they are people of character who want the best for their fellowship and congregations. I found this written 2000 years ago, “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” (Heb 13.17) And not just in church, the workplace too. Show your confidence in them, to have confidence in you to be a better person and serve your community with the same passion. Remember teach to bring hope, preach to give confidence, and speak to share love. Looking to Jesus as Life Lasts from there.
