Leaders - Focus on Christ for the People's sake. #2

Do you love a good roller-coaster? That acceleration and cornering causes ear-splitting screams from those being jettisoned to within an inch of their lives and the shouts of delight as the coaster brakes to a halt, we riders have survived! I normally can’t wait to do it again! That fear is a crazy sensation when you think about it. We’re gripped by fear. When we come in to ‘land’ the overwhelming sense of relief has us trusting an even bigger and badder coaster!
God is like this when we truly follow him. He wants us to trust and have faith. The journey may have sharp corners to navigate at what seems like break-neck speed as life’s issues loom large on the horizon. Yet checking back to our past journey with God, we can see we made it through the bad times then, we will do it again. And leaders, you need to lead the way of faith. You are expected to model the Jesus-life as you support your congregation to do the same.
In Acts in the Bible, a very frightening thing happened in Chapter 5. It says, “Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.” (Acts 5.11 NIV) The great fear that came over them was honestly managed by the leaders, and fear became relief and they trusted God; the result is an acceleration of growth in the church.
Why did this growth happen? Deep thinker John Stott in his book, The Cross of Christ, says, “The community of the cross, which has truly absorbed the message of the cross, will always be motivated to action by the demands of justice and love.” Acts 5 in the Bible we see what he means. Teach to bring hope, preach to give confidence, and speak to share love. Looking to Jesus as Life Lasts from there.
