Leaders - Focus on Christ for the People's Sake. #5
Updated: Aug 6, 2020
Leaders who don’t focus on Christ will be looking in the wrong direction! So if that’s you, who is your role model? We become like those we look up to. If we are a leader, by definition we are a leader because others follow us. If we reckon we’re a leader and no one is following, that means we’re a loner! Say we have people following us. What is one of the most powerful things to do for them? Pray!
Paul made a big thing about this when he wrote in Timothy’s first letter. “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people…” (1 Tim 2.1 NIV) In a few words, a lot of ground is covered. And it’s covered for the sake of the people. Every part of this strategy is actually refocussing hope, love and direction for the people to follow Jesus Christ. Copy Jesus, see what Jesus did and emulate him in our time.
Bill Johnson in his book, When Heaven Invades Earth focusses us in the same direction. “Christ-likeness – excellence with humility is the real goal. Promotion comes from the Lord…Formulas don’t work in the Kingdom relationships.” It’s surely Kingdom relationships we need as leaders. Later Bill goes on, “We are His representation on earth – ambassadors of His world. Our cries, all of them, touch His heart.” Be focussed on Christ for the sake of our people, or does someone else get our attention? The focus in prayer truly comes when we teach to bring hope, preach to give confidence, and speak to share love. Looking to Jesus as Life Lasts from there.
